Tristan Fry holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Missouri State University, and has worked in the field of ASD employment support since 2016. During that time, Tristan has helped many ASD individuals obtain successful, long-lasting employment in their communities.
In this presentation, we will review common accommodations used to support ASD individuals in the workplace. Onsite support is an integral piece of job development, and this session will review effective accommodations across a wide range of jobs. We will discuss several strategies, including job coaching, picture checklists, timers, modified job duties, shortened work schedules, and more. These innovative and simple strategies can be implemented easily, at no or limited employer cost, and can even be used to support neurotypical coworkers once implemented. After reviewing successful workplace accommodations and strategies, we will review a series of story-based scenarios. Each scenario will feature a participant who is experiencing a workplace difficulty which can be alleviated by an accommodation. As a group, we will discuss which potential accommodation(s) could successfully remove the workplace barrier. The presentation will end with time for audience questions.
